Optimizing Africa’s cold chain industry
More than 40% of agricultural and health commodities are lost in Africa due to handling and storage breaches. Impact-driven engineering graduate Oghenetega (Tega) Iortim established Figorr (formerly Gricd) to support the African cold chain industry with cutting-edge products and services. Agriculture, healthcare, and logistics businesses can optimize the value of temperature-sensitive perishables such as food, vaccines, and insulin with real-time data on location, humidity, and temperature to mitigate losses. Figorr is also working on a risk management software platform that will feed data to insurers for customized insurance coverage. The technology is used in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda.
