Armed with business skills, a degree in creative design and the built environment, Kevine Kagirimpundu spotted a gap in the Rwandese market for locally-made shoes. She co-founded UZURI K&Y, combining her passions for craft and environmental sustainability to design and manufacture eco-footwear from polluting tires dumped in landfills. In a country needing skills and jobs, Kevine leveraged the huge demand for shoe-making training to upskill countless women and youth to start businesses themselves. With UZURI K&Y’s expansion into regional and international markets, this footwear pioneer puts Rwanda and African-inspired shoe design on the global map.
