Countering climate change impact with ancient superfood
Agricultural technologist Abdulai A. Dasana and his Ghanaian company, AMAATI, spearheaded the revival of fonio, an ancient West African superfood akin to millet. AMAATI is now a thriving multi-million dollar agricultural business in Northern Ghana, a region threatened by encroaching desertification. Abdulai fosters sustainable livelihoods for small-scale women farmers by establishing farms and creating regenerating land management systems to grow fonio and other crops. Collaborating with 9,000 mostly rural women farmers and workers in their production facility, AMAATI is changing lives and mitigating food insecurity with a vision to nourish Ghana, Africa, and the world.
