SPOTLIGHT HERO OF THE MONTH

This month, we celebrate Christelle Kwizera, the founder of Water Access Rwanda, as our Spotlight Hero of the Month. Water Access Rwanda is a groundbreaking social enterprise dedicated to eliminating water scarcity by providing safe, affordable, and sustainable water solutions. Through innovative technology and community-driven approaches, the company delivers reliable access to clean water for households, businesses, and farmers.

Founded in 2014, Water Access Rwanda has achieved remarkable milestones:

  • Infrastructure Development: The organization has drilled over 200 boreholes and implemented 46 INUMA™ purified safe water mini-grids ensuring efficient water distribution across various regions.
  • Community Impact: To date, Water Access Rwanda is supplying safe water to over 170,000 people, with 68,000+ safely managed users, significantly reducing reliance on unsafe water sources and improving health and well-being.
  • Employment Generation: The enterprise has created jobs for 110 individuals, addressing youth unemployment and empowering local communities.

Water Access Rwanda is the first non-state-owned utility to get licensed in Rwanda, in the history of the country. Water Access Rwanda is now a custodian of 18 service areas in the country, which we plan to cover 100% by the end of 2025. This milestone is significant in the country's journey toward universal water access. Christelle Kwizera's visionary leadership continues to inspire and drive transformative change, exemplifying the profound impact of social entrepreneurship.

ABH ALUMNI VISIT WATER ACCESS RWANDA IN THE FIRST EVER ALUMNI DAY

During our recent Grand Finale and Summit, we hosted an Alumni Day, where our heroes had the opportunity to visit some of the mini-grids that Water Access Rwanda has established in its mission to provide clean water to communities. We also explored their upcoming state-of-the-art facility, set to open later this year, a testament to their continued innovation and impact.

Christelle Kwizera is an integral part of our community, and we celebrate her dedication to solving water challenges and transforming lives.
