A trailblazer for financial inclusion in Zimbabwe
Today, MoneyMart is Zimbabwe’s fastest-growing MFI with 27 branches, 10,650 active customers (70% are women), and a cumulative disbursement of $25 million. MoneyMart has focused on bold and innovative ways to include financially excluded women and youth and offers tailor-made loans to low-income earning entrepreneurs, such as vegetable vendors and day laborers.

The company’s philosophy is that lending is not a one-size-fits-all loan plan and that every circumstance and business is unique and needs an individual credit solution. MoneyMart also offers loans for home solar systems, asset finance, micro insurance (for funeral and health benefits), and school fees. This success has been achieved when Zimbabwe’s four-year inflation average was 258%. For her trailblazing work, the African Institute of Philanthropy and the Women’s Institute of Philanthropy awarded Ethel an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. The International Women’s University also conferred upon her an Honorary Doctor in Business Leadership & Entrepreneurship.
